In 1956, Gary graduated from Center Line High School where he played halfback on the football team that became the 1956 state champions and he earned a scholarship to play for Purdue University. On June 14, 1958, he married Connie Dailey. Gary was an engineer for General Motors Tech Center, retiring in 2003 after 43 years of employment. Since 1980, he and his wife owned and operated Buccilli's Pizza and Cakes in Almont. In May of 2014, Gary reopened the Allenton Tavern. He loved animals and was a collector, especially enjoying collecting convertible cars.
